Practice 05

Orthophoto mapping.

Absolute accuracy comes from the georeferencing, which is why this sits next to the navigation work.

FIG 06 Survey plan · flight lines and control
Survey flight plan over an area of interest A plan view of a photogrammetric survey: a serpentine track of five flight lines across a rectangular area of interest, overlapping camera footprints along the first line, and five ground control points distributed across the block. AREA OF INTEREST FOOTPRINT OVERLAP GROUND CONTROL ×5 FLIGHT LINES
Serpentine flight lines, camera footprint overlap and distributed ground control. Illustrative. Flight linesGround control
Survey design
Ground sample distance, overlap and flight lines derived from the accuracy the output actually has to meet.
Georeferencing
GNSS‑aided positioning, ground control and independent check points, and how the three are traded against each other.
Processing
Bundle adjustment, orthomosaic and surface model production, with residuals reported rather than hidden.
Accuracy statement
Accuracy measured on check points that took no part in the adjustment, written so it can be relied on.
